Men's Lacrosse: Rivier tops Albertus Magnus, 14-6

(New Haven, CT) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team earned a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest over Albertus Magnus College at Celentano Field in New Haven, Connecticut on March 31st. The win sends the Raiders to 2-0 in the GNAC and an overall record of 3-5.  Albertus Magnus slides to 2-4 and 0-2 in conference play.

It was back and forth from the beginning of the first half to the 10:51 mark when falcons junior James May (Branford, CT) capitalized off of a failed clear by the Raiders.  May leads his team with 18 goals and 7 assists.

Rivier was able to equalize with 40 seconds left in the first quarter.  It was sophomore Kyle Newman (Merrimack, NH) who scored the goal off of a turnover.  Junior Colby Larsen (Windham, NH) was credited for the assist. This was Newman's first goal of the season. 

The game was tied up at half 1-1 however the difference between the two teams was the Raiders outshot the Falcons 10-2.  Which proved to set a precedent for the rest of the match.

Senior Liam Ryan (Dorchester, Ma) and junior Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Ma) opened up the second quarter with a goal apiece just a few minutes apart.  Assists were given to freshman Dylan McSparren (Warwick, RI) and senior Joe Kelland (Watertown, Ma)

The Falcons were able to come up with a goal in the middle of the 2nd quarter by sophomore Chris Magnifico (Glastonbury, CT) off a Senior Brennan Moore (Meriden, CT) assist.  This is Magnifico's 10th goal of the season. 

The third quarter was the period that truly separated the two programs.  Brady tallied another 2 goals and 2 assists. Larsen tallied 3 goals of his own and Junior Eric Guinasso (Pelham, NH) chipped in with a goal as well.  The Raiders outshot the Falcons again 11-6.

Falcons Senior Goalkeeper (Merrick, NY) put his work in for the day with 19 saves, bringing his total save count to 77 on the season.

Junior Cloutman (Peabody, Ma) proved why he's among the top 5 goalkeepers in the GNAC.  The Junior made 8 saves, conceding 6 on the day.  Cloutman boasts a 59.4% save percentage with a total of 101 saves and the only goalie in the conference to score an unassisted goal in the run of play.

In GNAC's top 5 "Individual Offense Leaders" Larsen is currently tied for 4th place with 19 goals while Dylan McSparren is fighting for 2nd place in assists with two other conference opponents. 

Next up, the Raiders will travel to Newton, Ma for another conference match up against the Mount Ida Mustangs (3-6, 2-0 GNAC) on Wednesday, April 4th at 7:00PM.  The Falcons will host their next conference challenge against Anna Maria (2-7, 0-2 GNAC). at 7:00PM on April 4th, in New Haven, CT.
