Men's Lacrosse: Raiders top Becker, 17-4

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team earned their first win of the season this afternoon as they defeated visiting Becker College, 17-4 in a non-conference contest at Raider Field. The win improves the Raiders' overall record to 1-4 while the Hawks stumble to 1-3 on the season.

Rivier junior Eric Guinasso struck first at 12:51 with an unassissted goal and ten seconds later another unassisted goal by junior Chris Pennie (Wilmington, Ma).  The Raiders continued to pepper Beckers sophomore goalkeeper throughout the first quarter.  The hawks breakthrough with 2 minutes to spare in the first quarter with a goal from senior Cruz Derochers (Malden, Ma) as he nets his second goal of the season off a dish from Junior Josheph Linnehan (Dedham, Ma) tallying his first assist of the season.

The Raiders were not phased and persisted with their attack scoring two goals within the last minute of the quarter.  This time senior Joe Kelland (Watertown, Ma) and senior Liam Ryan (Dorchester, Ma) found the net off of assists from Liam Ryan and freshman Dylan McSparren (Warwick, RI) who leads the Raiders with 6 assists.

The Hawks started off the second half with a goal in the first minute scored by the same duo, Deroschers with the goal and Linnehan on the assist. While that narrowed the lead to a 4-2 difference.  The Raiders earned 5 goals before the end of the half.  Liam Ryan, junior Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Ma), senior Tyler Prendergast (Derry, NH) and senior Colby Larsen (Windham, NH) were all responsible for the onslaught! The Raiders traughted into the second half with the score at 9-2 with a total of 33 shots on sophomore goal keeper Trey McMillen (Grapevine, TX).

The second half started off started off with the Raiders slinging 3 consecutive unsuccessful shots. Until Colby Larsen scored after a turnover won by Dylan McSparren in the middle of the field.  Less than a minute later McSparren managed to score after a brilliant set up by Joe Kelland.

When it was all said and done. It was the raiders captain Colby Larsen that led team with 3 goals and 1 assist.  Joining the scoresheet was junior Eric Guinasso (Pelham, NH),  Dylan McSparren, junior Rob Fullerton (Wilmington,MA) and senior Max Tucci (Newton Ma).

Raiders Junior goalkeeper Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Ma) saw over 40 minutes of action before Coach Delanoy called upon sophomore Jake Marchant (Tewkbury, Ma.) freshmen Ben Fitzpatrick (Stoneham, Ma) and freshman Jake DeStefano (Peabody, Ma).  The trio managed to give up only 1 goal in their collective efforts.

Scoring hasn't been an issue for Colby Larsen and Liam Ryan as they're both tied as the teams leading scorers with 9 goals apiece.  While Dylan Mc Sparren and Sean Brady are shortly behind with 6 goals apiece.

Much respect to Becker College's goalkeeper, Trey McMillen who made 22 saves on the night.

Up next for the Raiders will be UMass Boston (3-3) on March 22nd, here at Raider Field at 1:00PM.  The Hawks will host in Benedictine University at 11:00AM on March 22nd in Worcester, Ma.
