Men's Lacrosse: Kelland's Fourth Quarter Scores Help Send Raiders Past Becker, 11-8

Nashua – Joe Kelland (Watertown, Mass.) snapped an early 8-8 fourth quarter tie with a pair of back-to-back man-advantage goals helping send host Rivier past Becker, 11-8 in a back-and-forth regional men's lacrosse matchup at frigid Raider Field Friday evening.

Kelland, who added two assists to lead the squad with four points on the night, notched his first and second goals of the season with 13:55 and 3:18 remaining, respectively. Rivier (1-1) picked up its first victory of the season coming back from third quarter deficits of 6-5 and 7-6 in a contest that saw five ties.

Tyler Tambouris (Hooksett, N.H.) and William Ryan (Dorchester, Mass.) each posted a pair of markers with one assist each for the winners. Tambouris went on to pull in a game-best 13 groundballs and was nearly perfect (10-11) on face offs.

Eric Guinasso (Pelham, N.H.) chipped in with a goal and assist for the hosts. In all, seven different Raiders found the back of the net.

Avyaya Chaganty (Bridgewater, N.J.) led Becker (0-2) with three goals and two assists, while Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up a goal and set up three others. Blake Boutiette (Burrillville, R.I.) chipped in with a goal and two helpers.

Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.) made six saves in goal for Rivier, while Michael Krch (Justice, Ill.) turned aside 22 shots for the Hawks.

Rivier concludes a three-game season-opening home stand facing Husson on Monday at 2:00 p.m. Becker visits Dean on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

The Raiders finished with a 52-26 advantage on total shots (33-14 on goal) and doubled up the Hawks on face offs (14-7) helping negate Becker's advantage on ground balls (46-39).

Becker finished 3 for 12 on the man advantage while Rivier was 2 for 5.

Tied at five at the half, Becker twice forged ahead at 6-5 and 7-6 on goals from Kevin Morello (Monroe Township, N.J.) at the 9:28 mark and Chaganty with 5:14 left, sandwiching a Ryan score at the 6:38 mark.

Jacobson tied it for Rivier eight seconds after Chaganty's strike and Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Mass.) pushed the hosts back in front 1:02 later, only to see Becker tie it agains at eight with 1:05 to go in the period on a Cruz Desrochers (Malden, Mass.) score.

Kelland's eventual gamer came off a Casey Park (Londonderry, N.H.) pass while his icer was set up by Brady. Guinasso closed it out with 2:30 left for the 11-8 final.
