Raiders Win On The Road, Beat Becker 6-5

LEICESTER, Mass.- Rivier University dropped a 6-5 decision on Becker College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win sails the Raiders record to 5-4 (2-3 GNAC), while the Hawks fall to 7-2 (3-1 GNAC).

The Hawks got on the board when Myles White (Norwalk, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal 2:37 into the contest. Rivier tied the game 21 seconds later when Sean Given (Freshmen – Londonderry, N.H.) scored on a feed from Cody Lynch (Sophomore – Salem, N.H.). The Raiders took a 2-1 lead on a Cody Lynch goal with 8:00 remaining in the first quarter.

Becker ended the Raiders scoring run when David Deschenes (Gales Ferry, Conn.) found Dan Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.), tying the game at 2-2. With time expiring in the first quarter, Rivier's Kyle Graham (Sophomore – Londonderry, N.H.) set up Kevin Dembkoski (Sophomore – Salem, N.H.) for his fourth goal of the season.

The Raiders took a 4-2 advantage when Danny Hooper (Senior – Wakefield, R.I.) scored on a man advantage with 9:32 remaining in the second quarter. The score remained the same until Kyle Graham tallied his 14th goal of the season to give the Raiders a 5-2 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Becker got two goals from senior John DeAngelis (Swampscott, Mass.) to cut the Hawks deficit to 5-4 going into the fourth quarter.

Becker tied the game 36 seconds into the final stanza when Myles White rippled the twine with his second goal of the game. The score stayed locked at 5-5 until freshman Tom Johnson (Londonderry, N.H.) netted what proved to be the game winner with 3:50 remaining in regulation.

Becker goalie Jeffrey Candee (Madison, Conn.) made nine saves, while Clark Plummer (Sophomore – Londonderry, N.H.) collected 15 saves.

Rivier will travel to Paxton on Wednesday, April 2 when they play Anna Maria College at 4:00 p.m.  Becker returns to action on Monday, March 31 when they host GNAC foe Albertus Magnus at 7:00 p.m.
