Men's Lacrosse falls to Saint Joseph's, 8-4

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team suffered their first home loss of the season, 8-4 to the visiting Monks of Saint Joseph's College. The Raiders are now 3-2 overall on the season with a 0-1 mark in the GNAC. Saint Joseph's improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Rivier took the early lead as sophomore Cody Lynch (Londonderry, NH) and freshman Sean Given (Londonderry, NH) combined to score twice within the first 16 minute as the Raiders held a 2-0 lead. With time expiring in the first half, the Raiders found themselves down two men and Saint Joseph's capitalized. Dalton Eldrige was the beneficiary as he netted two goals in 12 seconds to tie the game at 3 as the horn sounded.

The Monks came out in on fire in the second half as they scored five unanswered goals en route to the 8-4 final. Jake Ricciardi and Andrew Sullivan each scored twice for the visitors and Eldrige added his third during that span. Rivier's Lynch scored with 1:38 left to play for the Raiders' fourth goal. Senior Danny Hooper (Warwick, RI) also had a tally for Rivier in the loss.

Sophomore Clark Plummer (Londonderry, NH) was under fire all afternoon as he turned away 19 of 27 shots he faced. SJC's Ethan Rettew stopped 8 of 12 to earn his second win of 2014.

Rivier will return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Mount Ida College for a 3:30pm GNAC contest. Saint Joseph's will also be in GNAC on Wednesday as they travel to Anna Maria College.
