Men’s Hockey Falls to Albertus in Inaugural GNAC Commissioner’s Cup

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA: The Rivier men's hockey team fell this evening to Albertus Magnus in the opening game of the first GNAC Commissioner's Cup.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/18/2022

- Score: Albertus 4, Rivier 1

- Records: Albertus (16-7-1), Rivier (5-16-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Falcons jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead through the first period. Zach Pellegrino got the scoring going at the 8:04 mark. Albertus tacked on one more 9:29 into the first on a goal from Ryan Colwell.  

- Rivier got the board after beating Logan Bateman, the Falcons tender, 10:59 seconds into the third period. The Ryan Nolte (Canton, MA) goal made it a one score game at 2-1 with just under 10 minutes to play.

- Unfortunately, Albertus would net another to go back up by two at 12:10. Cameron Weitzman was responsible for the Falcon's third goal of the game to put his team up 3-1. Harley Michaels would capitalize on an open net opportunity with 40 seconds left in the game to extend their lead to 4-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Andrew LoRusso (Peabody, MA) gloved 27 saves tonight in the loss.

-  Bateman had a solid night in goal, picking up his 16th win of the season (16-5-1). He was nearly perfect, saving 21 of 22 shots faced.

-  Shots: Albertus 31, Rivier 22.
