Men's Basketball: Raiders fall in GNAC opener at Emmanuel

(Boston, Mass.) The Rivier University Men's Basketball began the second semester of play this afternoon as they fell on the road at Emmanuel College, 82-67, in the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest of the year. The Raiders are now 1-12 overall on the season with an 0-1 mark in the conference while the Saints improve to 9-4, 1-0 GNAC.

Junior Issaiah Chappell (Sunapee, N.H.) led all Raiders with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Classmate Nate Hale (Nashua, N.H.) finished with nine points and sophomore Jack McCarthy (Rowley, Mass.) collected eight points in a reserve effort for Rivier.

Sophomore Marcus Fox (Danbury, Conn.) paced the Emmanuel offense as he was one of five student-athletes to reach double-figures in the game. Fox finished with a team high of 20 points and senior Isaiah Ruffen (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Sophomore Zachary Crisafulli (Easthampton, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points and both junior Emmett Riddick (Middletown, Conn.) and senior Joe Tamburro (South Windsor, Conn.) finished with 10 point each in the win.

This is the second time this season that Emmanuel has defeated Rivier. The Saints were victorious in a non-conference matchup (94-73) back on December 1st inside the Muldoon Gymnasium.

The Raiders will return to action on Thursday evening as they host Lasell College in a conference matchup inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. Game time is set for 6pm. Emmanuel will also be back in conference action on Thursday as they travel to the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) for a 7pm tip-off.
