(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team officially tipped-off their 2018-19 season this evening with a 95-84 setback to visiting Newbury College inside a packed Muldoon Gymnasium. It was the season opener for both squads as the Raiders are now 0-1 while the Nighthawks improve to 0-1.
Junior Issaiah Chappell (Sunapee, N.H.) led the offensive attack as he was one of three Raiders to eclipse 20 points on the night. Chappell finished with 27 on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor while senior Isaiah Marks (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Nate Hale (Nashua, N.H.) each totaled 21 points. Marks pulled down eight rebounds for the team-high and junior Josh O'Loughlin (Milford, N.H.) chipped in with eight points in the loss.
Omar Williams was the overall point leader as the veteran guard scored 35 points, including a perfect 13-for-13 from the line. Francisco Santiago finished with 17 points and Pierce Weatherspoon collected eight rebounds and netted 11 points for the Nighthawks. Tim Deng had a night in the paint as he finished with nine points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
Both teams will return to the hardwood tomorrow afternoon for 2pm tip-offs as the Raiders host Lesley University and the Nighthawks entertain Curry College.
