Men's Basketball: Givens nets 32 in season debut loss at Regis

(Weston, Mass.) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team opened up the second half of the season this afternoon with an 87-70 loss to Regis College in the inaugural Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup between the two schools. The Raiders fall to 1-10 overall with a 0-3 mark in the GNAC while Regis, who joined the GNAC prior to the start of the 2017-18 academic year, is now 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Sophomore Tristian Givens (Windsor, Conn.) had a monster game in his return to the court for Rivier as he hit eight of his first ten shots and finished with a game-high 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting. Sophomore Issaiah Chappelle (Concord, N.H.), making his Raider debut, scored 13 points and freshman Ian Wade (Windsor Locks, Conn.) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman Tyler Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) had a thunderous dunk in the game, finished with 10 points. 

Junior Shaun Wedderburn (Bronx, N.Y.) registered his first double-double with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds for Regis. Classmate Jordan Sheldon (Dorchester, Mass.) shot 7-of-9 from the floor as he finished with 17 points and five rebounds.

Next up for Rivier will be a home non-conference matchup with Castleton University on Tuesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium.
