Men's Basketball: Perez nets 40 in Raiders win over Paul Smith's

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team earned their first win of the season this afternoon as they defeated visiting Paul Smith's College, 99-72 in a non-conference contest inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders close out the first semester with a 1-9 overall record while the Bobcats stumble to 4-10.

Junior Angel Perez (Miami, Fla.) set the All-Time Rivier record for free throws made in a game as he went 20-for-20 from the line en route to a 40 point night to lead the Raiders. The record was previously held by current Head Coach Lance Bisson who knocked down 18 free throws against Albertus Magnus College back in 2009. Perez also pulled down eight rebounds and shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Freshman Ian Wade (Windsor Locks, Conn.) registered a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while sophomore Joshua L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) knocked down 14 points. Freshman Tarik Rivers (Stamford, Conn.) netted 13 points and a game-high six assists.

Paul Smith's received a 27-point effort from freshman Shane Stone (Willow Grove, Pa.) and sophomore Kris Carroll (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 21 points in the contest. Freshman Nazmir Nelson (Jersey City, N.J.) also hit double-digit points as he totaled 13 in a reserve role for the Bobcats.

Rivier will enjoy a long holiday break before they return to campus after the New Year to prepare for Regis College on January 6, 2018.
