Men's Basketball: Lorden nets 23 points as Raiders fall to Emmanuel 71-66

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team battled back from separate deficits of 26-10 in the first half and 64-55 with four minutes to pull within one but it wasn't enough as the visiting Saints took the Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon, 71-66 inside the Muldoon Gymnasium.

Rivier senior David Lorden (Pepperell, Mass.) knocked down a jumper in the paint to make it 64-63 in favor of the Saints with just 43 seconds left to play. Needing a huge defensive stop, Emmanuel sophomore Joe Tamburro (South Windsor, Conn.) nailed a three-pointer with 17 seconds left to effectively ice the game for the Saints.

Tamburro finished the game with a game-high of 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor. Lorden was just as good as he finished with 23 points and 10-for-17 shooting in the contest.

The freshman duo of Keith Poitier (East Hartford, Conn.) and Tristian Givens (Windsor, Conn.) each finished the afternoon with 10 points while senior Tom Deveau (Lynn, Mass.) collected six rebounds and eight points.

Emmanuel was buoyed by the efforts of freshman Emmitt Riddick (Middletown, Conn.) – 11 points, 4 assists – and senior Aidan Hadley (Owls Head, Maine), who pulled down eight rebounds to lead the team.

It'll be a quick turnaround for the Raiders as they will welcome Saint Joseph's College (Maine) to the Muldoon at 7pm on Wednesday night in their next contest. Emmanuel, meanwhile, will step out of conference play as they travel to Wesleyan University on Wednesday night.
