Men's Basketball falls in season opener to Plymouth State, 84-60

(Concord, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team dropped their 2016-17 Season opener this evening to Plymouth State University, 84-60 in the annual Boys and Girls Club Classic hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute. The game also marked the first for Rivier Head Coach Lance Bisson '09 who is officially the Head Coach after serving as the Interim Head Coach a season ago.

Making his collegiate debut, freshman Tristian Givens (Windsor, Conn.) knocked down three three-pointers on his way to a team high 17 points in the contest. Senior Kevin Francis (Cromwell, Conn.) registered a double-double with 14 points and a team high 11 rebounds (all defensive boards) and freshman Joshua L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) came off the bench and knocked down eight points in twenty-one minutes.

The Panthers (1-0) saw senior Curtis Arsenault (Berlin, N.H.) record his 1,000 career point as he led the team with 14 points along with classmates Ernie Johnson (Springfield, Mass.) and Jack Preston (Nashua, N.H.). Freshman Jaylen Leroy (Manchester, N.H.) added 13 points and sophomore Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.) pulled down four rebounds and chipped in with four points in the win.

Rivier (0-1) will return the friendly confines of the Muldoon Gymnasium as they get set to host the 24th annual Rivier University Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night. The Raider will play the early game (6pm) against Unity College before Lesley University and Fisher College square off in the night cap. Plymouth State will be back in action on Thursday night as they host Norwich University at 7pm.
