PAXTON, MASS. – The Rivier University Field Hockey season came to an end this evening as the team ultimately fell to Anna Maria College, 2-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Caparso Field. The loss solidifies the Raiders 2019 campaign with an overall record of 6-10 and 3-5 against the conference while the AMCATS improve to 8-8 overall, 4-4 in league play.

All of the scoring took place in the first 30 minutes of action. Anna Maria broke the scoreless tie in the 9th minute as Lauren Lapierre sent a pass into the circle where Anne Melanson was able to tip it home for the early advantage. In the second quarter, the Raiders tied the game off the stick of sophomore Maegan Sheehy (Sabattus, Maine). Sheehy banged home a pass from classmate Felicity Defosses (Franklin, N.H.) in the 22nd minute for her 2nd goal of the season. However the AMCATS answered back in the 26th minute as Abigayle Celata scored her 4th goal of the year off a feed from Chayna Bingham-Hendricks to make it a 2-1 game that stood over the final 33 minutes.

Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Katie Olsen (Saugus, Mass.) made five saves on seven chances while Anna Maria's Hannah Tobey stopped two of the three shots she faced on net.

The AMCATS, by virtue of the win, qualify for the GNAC Playoffs starting on Saturday afternoon.
