Field Hockey: Raiders blanked by Gordon College, 3-0

WENHAM, MASS. – The Rivier University Field Hockey season was kicked off this afternoon as the team fell to Gordon College, 3-0 in the season opener for the Raiders. Gordon scored a goal in the second quarter and two in the third quarter to even their record at 1-1 while the Raiders sit at 0-1.

It was a solid start for Rivier as they would hold the Fighting Scots scoreless through the opening 15 minutes of action. Gordon got on the board as the second stanza was underway as Natalie Adamez scored her first goal of the year, an unassisted one, at 18:41.

Gordon would then add their final two goals in the third quarter as Cara Goudie netted both tallies at 34:24 and 40:29 to give the Fighting Scots a 3-0 advantage and final score.

Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Katie Olsen (Saugus, Mass.) made eleven saves on the afternoon while her counterpart Julia Altman did not see a shot on net throughout the 60 minutes of action.

Next up for the Raiders will be their first home game inside newly named Joanne Merrill Field as they welcome Westfield State to Nashua for a 1pm non-conference affair.
