Field Hockey: Raiders edged by Fitchburg State, 2-1

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team suffered their sixth one-goal loss of the season this evening as visiting Fitchburg State University came away with a 2-1 non-conference decision under the lights and rain at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders overall record to 2-8 while the Falcons improve to 5-4.

Fitchburg State wasted no time getting on the board as senior Molly Richard (Leominster, Mass.) netted her 7th goal of the season in the 8th minute. That would be the only goal of the first half as the teams were evenly matched throughout the contest.

Rivier would tie the game in the 43rd minute when freshman Maegan Sheehy (Sabattus, Maine) knocked home a pass from junior Jaclyn Fraser (Wilmington, Mass.). It was Sheehy's 6th goal of the year and it knotted things up at one.

Fitchburg State would immediately respond as Richard scored her second of the game, this time off a feed from junior Aislinn DeHorsey (Leominster, Mass.), just a minute and five seconds following the Sheehy goal.

Raider senior goalkeeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) made four saves on the evening and freshman Abby Bryant (Ware, Mass.) stopped three of the four shots she faced in the win for the Falcons.

The Raiders will enjoy a long break before their next contest which will be on Thursday, October 11 at home against Becker College. Fitchburg State will have the opposite of time off as they get set to host the University of Southern Maine tomorrow night at 7pm.
