Field Hockey: Raiders fall at home to Simmons, 5-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon to visiting Simmons College by a 5-0 final. The loss sends the Raiders' overall record to 2-9 with a 0-5 conference mark while the Sharks improve to 9-3 overall, 5-0 in the GNAC.

The Raiders were able to keep pace with Simmons as they battled to a scoreless first half. In the final stanza, the Sharks were able to net five goals within a short 13 minute span to secure the win.

Simmons senior Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) was able to break the ice in the 53rd minute as she knocked home a pass from freshman Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, N.Y.). Minutes later, freshman Delaney Conway (Derry, N.H.) riffled home a pass from junior Missie Malewski (Northampton, Mass.) to make it 2-0. Malewski and senior Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) then netted the final three goals for the 5-0 final.

Rivier junior goalkeeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) made 10 saves on the afternoon, allowing two goals. Sophomore Erica Royle (Kingston, Mass.) finished the final 12 minutes in net allowing three goals. Simmons' freshman Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) did not see a shot on net as she recorded the win.

Next up for the Raiders will be a non-conference road contest at Becker College on Wednesday afternoon. Simmons will also be in non-conference action on Wednesday as they host Mount Holyoke with a 6pm start time.
