Field Hockey: Beth Castle nets first career goal as Raiders top Framingham State

(Framingham, Mass.) The Rivier University field hockey team defeated Framingham State University by a score of 2-1 in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the win the Raiders improve to 2-8 while the Rams slip to 2-9.

The visitors opened up scoring in the 16th minute when freshman Beth Castle (Enfield, Conn.) sent a one-time pass from sophomore Jaclyn Fraser (Wilmington, Mass.) into the open side of the goal.

The Rams answered in the 25th minute when Sydney Buono (Ashburnham, Mass.) sent in a shot off an assist from Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.) to send the teams into the break tied 1-1.

The Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute when junior Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored on a rebound off a save.

The Rams had an opportunity to tie when they were awarded a penalty corner as time expired but their shot went just wide after a one-time pass.

Junior Emily Foster (West Lebanon, NH) made 11 stops in the win for the Raiders. Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) turned away six Rams shots in net for the Raiders. The Rams received three defensive saves, two from Hannah Cairney (Milford, Mass.) and one from Brianna Spagna (Berkley, Mass.)

The Raiders return to action on Saturday, October 7th when they host Simmons College at 1:00pm. The Rams host Fitchburg State on that same day.
