Field Hockey: Raiders sniped by visiting Lasers

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team was shutout this afternoon as the Lasell College Lasers earned the Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory by a 7-0 final at Raider Field. The Raiders are now 1-6 overall on the year and 0-3 in the GNAC while the Lasers remain undefeated at 8-0 (3-0 GNAC).

Lasell did most of the damage in the first half as they found the back of the net five times, three of which came off the stick of sophomore Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.). Sophomore Brooke Landry (New Milford, Conn.) and freshman Claire Shepard (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded the other two first half goals as they took a commanding 5-0 lead at the half. Shepard and junior Nikki Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) would be the recipients of the second half tallies to account for all of the scoring.

Junior Emily Foster (Lebanon, N.H.) made the start for Rivier between the pipes as she allowed two goals on four shots and sophomore Erica Royle (Kingston, Mass.) made twelve saves in a relief effort on the warm afternoon. Lasell senior goalkeepers Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) and Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.) combined for the shutout as Kulvete stopped all three Raider shots on net.

Rivier will be back on the field Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Colby-Sawyer College for a non-conference contest. Lasell will look to extend their winning streak as they return to action on Tuesday evening at WPI.
