Field Hockey: Fraser scores her first of the season in 2-1 loss at Elms

(Chicopee, Mass.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team suffered another tough loss this evening as they fell to Elms College, 2-1 in a tightly contested non-conference contest in Chicopee. The Raiders are now 1-5 on the season while the Blazers improve to 1-4.

Elms got on the board early as Evelyn DeVaux scored her first of the season off a pass from Hayley Omahen in the 17th minute.

The score would remain 1-0 until the 42nd minute when Omahen netted her third of the year after Madison Gabel threaded a pass to the front of the net to make it a 2-0 Elms lead.

Sophomore Jaclyn Fraser (Wilmington, Mass.) got the Raiders on the board and cut the deficit in half as she collected a pass from classmate Samantha White (Waltham, Mass.), drew out the Blazers goalkeeper and finished for her first goal of the season in the 63rd minute.

Offensively the Raiders had their best shot output in a while as they riffled off 15 shots on the Elms net. However Blazer goalkeeper Jillian Lapponese made eleven saves and her defense stopped three others in securing the team's first win of 2017.

Junior Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) made two saves on four shots as she falls to 1-5 on the year.

Rivier will host Lasell College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. First whistle is scheduled for 2:30pm.
