Hauer, Raiders take down DW, 5-0 in Field Hockey action

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team earned their fourth win of the season this evening as they defeated visiting Daniel Webster College, 5-0 in front of about 50 people up on Raider Field. The win propels the Raiders' overall record to 4-9 while the Eagles are still in search of their first win as they are now 0-6.

Rivier would get on the board in the first half as freshman MaryKate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass.) knocked home a pass from sophomore Nicole Hauer (North Attleboro, Mass.) as the Raiders took the early 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Chelsea Gomes (Epsom, N.H.) would extend the lead to 2-0 as she was able to bang home a loose rebound in front of the net for her 5th goal of the season.

Hauer would add two goals of her own and sophomore Brittani Garza (Alexandria, Va.) would score her first goal of the season as the Raiders cruised to a 5-0 victory.

Senior Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) recorded her third shutout of the season as she made only one save. Daniel Webster's Danielle Melanson stopped 16 of 21 shots on goal in the loss.

The Raiders will return to action on October 11 when they host Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest. Game time is set for 3:30pm at Raider Field. Daniel Webster will host Bay Path College also on October 11th in their next contest.
