MYRTLE BEACH, SC: The Rivier baseball team played in two contests this evening against non-conference opponent Hilbert College, falling in both seven-inning contests.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/7/22

- Score: Hilbert 14, Rivier 4. Game two: Hilbert 17, Rivier 6.

- Records: Hilbert (3-3), Rivier (0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Game one saw the Hawks score early and often against the Raiders. They had a great deal of success in the first three innings of the ball game, scoring 12 of their 14 runs.

- For the Raiders, Zachary White (Long Beach, CA) had a solid day, with two hits and two RBIs. The Hawks had three student-athletes with multiple hits. Jairo Santos led the way with three hits and four RBIs.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Santos was the top performer in game one going 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs with an inside the park home run.

-  John Riviere-Vejas picked up two hits as well for the Hawks, along with two runs batted in.

-  White was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs on a single and a double.

Game Two

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders came out in game two swinging putting up a three spot in the bottom of the first inning to give themselves a 3-0 lead. The first run came across on a wild pitch while the other two came in the same play. A ground ball RBI out turned into another run on a throwing error by the first basemen.

- With two other runs coming across for the Raiders between the third and fourth innings, Hilbert would see themselves down 5-1.

-  The Hawks would get hot starting in the 6th inning. They would put up four runs to tie the game up at 5-5. After a walk, double, and a sacrifice fly, Hilbert would get their last on a throwing error by the Raiders infield.

- Hilbert would put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh, where they would plate 12 in a nine-hit inning along with two throwing errors.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Misael Guzman Caez was a perfect 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs and scoring 3 times.

-  Derek Martinez was a solid 3-for-5 with one RBI for the Hawks.

Frank Gulezian (Derry, NH) and Timothy Scott (Lowell, MA) both finished 3-for-4 in game two for Rivier.

- Rivier baseball is back in action Wednesday against Penn College at 2:30 and 5:15 pm.
