(Winthrop, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced earlier this afternoon that Rivier University freshman Corey Cochran (Salem, N.H.) was named the GNAC Baseball Rookie of the Week.

Cochran was a key contributor as the Raiders pulled off a double-header sweep of the University of Maine-Presque Isle to close out the six-game week. In the two games, the rookie went 5-for-6 with a RBI, walk, stolen base and four runs scored. In the team's 8-0 opening win, Cochran went a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored from the eighth slot in the batting order. For game two, a 10-4 Raider victory, he was moved up to the 2-hole and produced a 3-for-4 showing with a stolen base and two more runs scored.

He also received the nod for his performance on the mound in his only start of the week. Despite being tagged with the loss, the freshman right-hander allowed zero earned runs (seven runs total) on six hits over his 3.2 innings of work.

This is the first GNAC Player of the Week recognition for the Raider Baseball team this season and the first in the career of Cochran. The last time a member of the Rivier Baseball team received a weekly honor from the conference was back on April 4, 2016 when current senior Brandon Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) was named GNAC Rookie of the Week.

Cochran, Thibault and the rest of the Raiders will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Newbury College in a non-conference affair. Game time is set for 3pm at Harvey Woods Field.
