Baseball: Raiders handed 9-2 loss by Fisher

(Haverhill, Mass.) The Rivier University Baseball team dropped a non-conference contest this evening to Fisher College, 9-2 inside Trinity Stadium in Haverhill. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night at Fraser Field in Lynn but the forecast forced the game to be moved up. The loss sends the Raiders' overall record to 2-10 while the Falcons climb above .500 at 14-13.

Senior Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) collected three of Rivier's five hits on the evening as he finished 3-for-4 with a RBI, double and two stolen bases. Freshman Frederick Kazalski (Dracut, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with a run scoring double and sophomore Eric Maxfield (Lowell, Mass.) collected the other Raider hit.

Fisher's Zach LeBlanc was tough to hit as the right-hander struck out 13 over his seven innings of work allowing just four hits and did not walk a hitter. Norberto Ceballos coughed up the two runs in the eighth before Haydell Alcea and Ismael Perez closed out the contest.

Junior Kyle Flanagan (Bradford, Mass.) suffered the loss on the hill as he allowed six runs on eleven hits while walking just one and striking out six. Sophomore Cameron Way (El Cajon, Calif.) struck out two in his inning of relief for Rivier.

Cody Mercier was one of four Falcons to record multi-hit games as he finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and a RBI.

Next up for Rivier will be a non-conference double-header against Pine Manor College on Thursday morning. Game one is scheduled to begin at 10am over at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass.
