Baseball: Rivier shut down by Lesley, 6-1

(Northboro, Mass.) The Rivier University Baseball team fell this afternoon to Lesley University, 6-1 in a non-conference contest held at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts. The loss sends the Raiders to 1-9 overall on the season while the Lynx climb above .500 at 5-4 overall.

Lesley scored three times in the first inning of Rivier junior starter Kyle Flanagan (Bradford, Mass.) and then added a single run in the third before plating two more in the sixth. Freshman Daniel White (Augusta, Maine) then tossed the final two frames retiring all six batters he faced.

Sophomore Brandon Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) recorded his first hit of the season with a RBI single in the ninth to break up the shutout bid. Freshman Michael Cronan (Hope, R.I.) went 2-for-2 and senior Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) moved into a three-way tie for career hits in Raider uniform with Jeremy Ball '16 and Aramis Velez '13 at 113 with his 1-for-5 showing at the dish.

Flanagan pitched well despite allowing six runs. The right-hander only issued one walk and struck out five over his six innings of work.

Tom Muratore earned the win for Lesley as he tossed six innings of one-hit ball with eight strikeouts and both Ryan Pumphret & Steven DePalma went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Lynx.

Rivier will return to the New England Baseball Complex on Thursday evening as they take on Newbury College under the lights at 7pm.
