Baseball: Raiders swept by #24 Saint Joseph's (Me.)

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team dropped their Great Northeast Athletic Conference double-header this afternoon to visiting Saint Joseph's College, 15-9 and 18-0 inside Historic Holman Stadium. The pair of losses sends the Raiders to 3-25 overall on the season and 2-10 in the GNAC. The wins, meanwhile, improve the Monks to 26-6 and 9-1 GNAC.

Game One: Saint Joseph's College 15, Rivier University 9 (Final)

The Monks scored six runs in the third and seven in the sixth to walk away with a convincing 16-9 opening victory.

After being silenced for the first five frames, the Raider bats came alive as they plated nine runs over the final two innings. The biggest hit was a three-run homer from senior Jacob Rayner (Billerica, Mass.) in the sixth. Rayner finished the game going 3-for-4 with five RBI.

Saint Joseph's 16-run output was guided by Greg Emanuelson's 3-for-5, 4 RBI performance and a pair of solo homers from Taylor Black and Jameson Collins.

Grayson Jennings earned his second win of the season as he threw five innings of three hit ball while striking out two. Rivier senior Charles Savard (Tyngsboro, Mass.) suffered his fifth loss allowing 14 runs (10 earned) on 20 hits over 5.1 innings of work.

Game Two: Saint Joseph's College 18, Rivier University 0 (Final)

The bats continued to remain red hot for the Monks as they capitalized on some Raider miscues in route to an eight run first inning. Brett Barbati (Melrose, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Black added a 3-for-4 nightcap to pace the balanced offensive attack. Noah McDaniel knocked in three RBI on his 2-for-4 night and Anthony DiPrizio collected two RBI and three runs scored while going 2-for-3 at the dish.

Aaron Hall gets credit for the win after pitching a hitless fourth inning in relief of Nick Malatesta. Ben Coleman and Phillip LeVangie gave up a hit each while preserving the shutout win.

Rivier senior Jonathan Chotkowski (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the unlucky loser as he gave up 13 runs, five earned, on thirteen hits over three innings. Rayner, junior Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Brett Iannazzo (Methuen, Mass.) were the only Raiders to record hits.

Rivier will be back in non-conference action tomorrow afternoon as they travel across town to battle with Daniel Webster College (4pm). The Monks will host Bowdoin College in a 7pm game on Tuesday night in their next scheduled contest.
