Baseball nipped at Plymouth State; Da Silva records first career hit

(Plymouth, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team suffered a 19-4 non-conference setback this afternoon to Granite State foe, Plymouth State University. The Raiders are now 9-21 overall (9-11 since returning from Florida) while Plymouth State climbs above the .500 mark at 15-14.

The score was a minor after thought as the Raiders were able to see senior Mauro Da Silva (Pepperell, Mass.) smash his first base hit of his career in the ninth inning. The four-year student-athlete was previously 0-for-20 with 18 strikeouts after appearing in 13 career games in his career until this afternoon. He promptly hit a 1-1 offering well over the right-fielder's head.

Offensively, the Raiders saw senior Frederick O'Brien (South Boston, Mass.) go 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI single from classmate Jeremy Ball (Swanzey, N.H.) – who finished 1-for-4. Also recording hits were sophomores Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) and Ty Seaton (Providence, R.I.), junior Drew Neely (Lakeland, Fla.) along with Da Silva.

The Panthers were paced by Luke Mancini, who went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and a solo HR.

Moving on – the Raiders will have a very important Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekend awaiting them as they travel to Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon before hosting Norwich University at Historic Holman Stadium on Sunday.
