Baseball stumbles against Newbury

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team dropped a non-conference contest this afternoon to Newbury College, 9-7 at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. The loss sends the Raiders' overall record to 6-17 on the season while the Nighthawks up their record to 11-14.
Sophomore Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) was the star of the game for Rivier as he went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two stolen bases. In the process, Ferdinand broke the single-season stolen base record previously held by David Cusack '15 – who stole 19 bases a season ago. Senior Taylor Black (West Springfield, Mass.) added a pair of RBIs and classmate Frederick O'Brien (South Boston, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI in the loss.
Freshman Zachary Barboza (Tyngsboro, Mass.) started on the hill and received a no-decision after he allowed six runs in 3.2 innings of work. Senior Matthew Keefe (Bradford, Mass.) was tabbed with the loss after allowing the eventual winning run to cross the plate in the eighth inning.
For the Nighthawks, senior Craig Barnett (Melbourne, Australia) had a night to remember as he went 5-for-6 with two RBI as he was the only student-athlete to record multiple hits on the evening for Newbury. Junior Ian Hruniak (Lutz, Fla.) belted his first home run of the season with a third inning two-run blast to right. Junior C.J. Ingraham (Georgetown, Mass.) also had a pair of RBIs in his 1-for-2 night with two walks.
Junior Tim Brown (Orange, Conn.) was credited with the win as he pitched 1.2 innings of relief and classmate Ethan Forrest (East Bridgewater, Mass.) closed it out for his first save of the season. Sophomore Billy Stephen (Windermere, Fla.) started and pitched four innings allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out two.
Rivier will be back in non-conference action on Thursday night as they travel to Lynn, Mass. for a 7pm date with Fisher College. Newbury will return to the New England Baseball Complex tomorrow night for a non-conference contest with Emerson College.
