Baseball powers past Saint Mary's College, 5-1

(Waldorf, Md.) The Rivier University Baseball team received yet another strong outing from senior Nicholas Pica (Derry, N.H.) as they earned a 5-1 non-conference win over Saint Mary's College of Maryland this evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Pica was magnificent as he allowed one earned run over eight innings of work, giving up just five hits and striking out four. Classmate Spencer Aguiar (Malden, Mass.) tossed a 1-2-3 9th to wrap up the Raiders' third win in a row.

Sophomore Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) went 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot and freshman Brandon Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) added a 2-for-5 night with 2 RBI in the win. Both junior Adam Arkell (Dover, N.H.) and Jacob Rayner (Billerica, Mass.) went 3-for-4 as Rivier pounded out 16 hits.

Saint Mary's Hayden Ferington was the lone star of the night as he went 2-for-4 with a solo home run into the left field picnic area in the 7th inning. Ben Webster suffered the loss on the mound for the Seahawks.

Rivier will return to Regency Furniture Stadium tomorrow evening as they take on Gallaudet University in another non-conference
