Baseball slugs their way to 11-6 win over Maine-Presque Isle

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team earned an 11-6 non-conference victory tonight over visiting University of Maine-Presque Isle inside the friendly confines of Historic Holman Stadium. The win improves the Raiders' overall record to 11-17 while UMPI slides to 4-11.

Junior Jesse Turcotte (Tyngsboro, Mass.) earned his first collegiate win as the right-hander battled through 6.2 innings of work. He allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits and had five strikeouts. Freshman Brady Mock (Webster, N.H.) tossed the final 2.1 innings allowing just two hits while fanning four for his first career save.

Rivier took the lead in the first inning and never looked back as the pounded out 17 hits in the contest. Senior David Cusack (Newburyport, Mass.) led the way with 3 hits, 3 stolen bases, 2 runs and a RBI. Sophomore Adam Arkell (Dover, N.H.) also had a 3 hit game as he also recorded a RBI. Junior Marc Medeiros (Arlington, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI from the nine hole in the team's win.

UMPI recorded 11 hits of their own as leadoff hitter Brady Rowe set the table by going 4-for-5 with a RBI. Tommy Collins added his own 3-for-4, two runs scored evening and Saul Nunez came off the bench with a 2-for-3 night.

Matt Curry suffered the loss as he went 6.2 innings allowing 8 runs (four earned) on 12 hits and striking out six.

Rivier will travel over to Franklin Pierce University tomorrow afternoon for a 12pm Great Northeast Athletic Conference Double-Header against Anna Maria College. Maine-Presque Isle will also return to action with a double-header at Fisher College.
