Raiders falter on the road at Gordon College

(Wenham, MA) For the third time this season, the Rivier University Baseball team dropped a game to the Gordon College Scots, this time it was a 9-0 final in the home opener for Gordon College.

Sophomore Steven Carlberg (Dover, NH) pitched brilliantly over his five innings of work but a couple of defensive mistakes allowed Gordon to score four runs – all of which were unearned.

Gordon was able to plate a run in the first when Brian Harrington (Sr./Shoreham, N.Y.) doubled and then crossed home on an error at right to give Gordon the 1-0 advantage.

That score held until the bottom of the fourth when Ben Davidson (Sr./Sterling, Mass.) reached on an error at short and advanced to second off an Alex Potocki (Fr./New Fairfield, Conn.) single. With the bases loaded after an Alex German (So./Brimfield, Ill.) single, Geoff Brown (Sr./East Moriches, N.Y.) popped up to second to score Davidson from third for the 2-0 lead. Before inning's end, the Scots' Alex Smith (Fr./Wethersfield, Conn.) widened that gap with a two-RBI drive to score Potocki and German and make it a 4-0 game.

The Scots would add a pair of runs in the sixth and a three spot in the seventh to finish with the 9-0 win.

Davidson earned the win on the mound as he tossed 5 innings of two-hit ball. He also fanned three while issuing just one walk.

Rivier falls to 1-10 on the season while Gordon improves to 6-3.

Both team will return to the diamond, weather permitting, on Thursday as the Raiders will travel to Newbury College and Gordon will host Colby-Sawyer.
